ABOUT THE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST
"We are part of the United Church of Christ – a Protestant denomination with a centrist theology. The UCC is worldwide, with approximately 9,000 churches in the United States. The motto of the UCC is Christ’s words at Gethsemane: "That they may all be one". It is this "uniting Spirit" which we claim and it is Jesus whom we emulate, knowing that God wants all of humankind to befriend one another—seeking justice and mercy, and living lives of grace, service and humility. The UCC was founded in 1959 with the merger of the Evangelical Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Church.

Currently, the UCC has "covenantal" agreements with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Presbyterian Church of America, the American Baptist Church, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), African Methodist Episcopal Church, African Episcopal Zion Church, Alliance of Baptists, Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Episcopal Church, International Council of Community Churches and the United Methodist Church. This covenantal agreement means that we are together seeking a visible expression of the oneness of Christ’s church and we are exploring ways of cooperating. Each of these denominations has entered freely into this covenant with each of the others and we are all the beneficiaries of our work together.
